Burke County features many attractions for the whole family such as the pristine Lake James, the allure of Lake Hickory, the mystery of the Brown Mountain Lights, and the beauty of the Linville Gorge. The northern part of the county is highlighted by Pisgah National Forest’s mature trees, rolling streams and waterfalls. If you are a movie buff, many of the scenes from the film Last of the Mohicans were filmed on the banks of the untouched Lake James. Wildlife is in abundance with at least two bald eagles that have made their nests around the Lake James basin.

Burke County also has many festivals that you can enjoy throughout the year such as the Bluegrass Festival, Waldensian Festival, Historical Morganton Festival, Whippoorwill Music Festival, the Overmountain Music Jamboree & BBQ Cook-off and the free musical entertainment that takes place every Friday night in both Morganton and Valdese during the summer months.
